
Canadian writer David Morrell created the Green Beret character "John Rambo". The book was later adapted to film. Stallone starred in First Blood (1982) together with Richard Crenna & Brian Dennehy. The movie was a surprise success that divided audiences due to it's commentary on the Vietnam warthat was still somewhat fresh in the American populace's mind. The political viewpoints aside it was hugely popular with a sequel following by Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) and received even greater criticism in a number of places due to the storyline of American MIAs believed to be held in Vietnam. However, they claim that there's nothing worse than bad publicity "John Rambo's" second film was an important moneymaker for Stallone and set him up as one of the top male stars of the 1980s. Stallone in the midst of a rise in popularity and fame, pleaded with Rocky Balboa, his sparring teammate, to return the ring in defense of the American spirit against an advancing Soviet threat. The opponent was the story of a Russian boxer named Ivan Drago played by Curt Dolph Lundgren. The violence levels of the film's fourth installment extreme, it caused a lot of controversy for "Rocky" enthusiasts. The violence levels were higher than previous Rocky films.
