Roulette is a casino game named for the French word meaning little wheel that is believed to have originated from the Italian game Biribi. In the game, the player can place a bet on one number, various groups of numbers, the color red or black regardless of whether the numbers are odd or even or if the numbers are either high (19-36) or low (1-18). The player spins the wheel in one direction. The player then spins the ball in the opposite direction, on an inclined track that runs around the outside edge of the wheel in order to determine the winning number. The ball loses its momentum and is pushed through a set of deflectors, before coming down onto the wheel. It then falls into one of the three-seven (single zero, French or European style Roulette), or thirty-eight (3,0, American style Roulette) (colored or pocket numbers. The winnings are transferred to any player who placed a bet that is successful.
